It has been a couple of weeks now since the town of Market Drayton closed its roads to traffic and saw 1300 runners set off en masse from The Grove School playing field to take part in the annual Market Drayton 10K road race.

Back in 2013, I first bit the bullet and graduated from a spectator to a participant and I am so glad I did. The Market Drayton 10K never disappoints. From the festival atmosphere on the Grove field (which includes the obligitory queue for the portaloos!) with the children’s fun run event and the pre-race warm up… right through to crossing the finish line to collect your well deserved medal and assorted goodies. The whole day is a joy.
One of the nicest things about the Market Drayton 10k is the community spirit. There is always so much support from local people lining the streets and cheering from their front gardens. This year’s race day was particularly hot and sunny so residents with hose pipes spraying cooling mists of water along the route were very much appreciated.
For the first time this year, MD AmDrams decided to get involved. A gazebo was set up in the field with photographs of past productions and information for anyone interested in finding out more about what we do and how to join. Also, singing from choir member Lisa’s front garden on the 10k route, Little Voices lead by Matt Baker performed a selection of upbeat songs to encourage the runners.

The runners seemed to appreciate the addition of the choir on the course and the choir certainly enjoyed taking part…
“It was my favourite thing we’ve ever done! Stopping mid song to ‘whoop’ someone was hilarious.” Lisa
“… I had a lovely time. It was so nice to cheer the runners on whilst they cheered us on!” Cathy
Little Voices will definitely be back next year, maybe with a whole new repertoire of running songs! (If you have any suggestions, please leave a comment)

You should sing Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush! (Bonus points if you’re at the bottom of Phoenix Bank)
